I-70 Mountain Traffic Congestion Thoughts

After the I-70 coalition came out with their final plan that widening the highway and incorporating some sort of rail system is the way to reduce traffic congestion I have some thoughts about their decision.

I believe that most, not all people are driven by convenience. If the rail system is quick, reliable in bad weather, cost the same or close to driving and most of all takes skiers to where they want to go then it will be successful.

For the most part weekend skiers drive to a specific reso… Continue

Traffic and Trains

This is a comment posted to my traffic summary section of the morning show web page that I thought would be good to post here. This is from viewer Becky.

Traffic never really bothers me but the evening of Wednesday, April 23rd.. well, it was horrendous. Understandably, traffic was caused by events in downtown Denver… What is unacceptable and must be commented on is the at least hour long traffic on Ward Road off I-70.

Greater regulation must be implemented for the railroad crossing this main… Continue

AutoSock gets probationary approval

This next story is close to my heart. CDOT will give large trucks the option of using an alternate traction control device known as the AutoSock next winter. This is a product that I did a feature story about in February. The AutoSock is a fabric that slips over a vehicle’s outer driving wheels like a shower cap, providing extra traction on snowy and icy roads. It also can be installed over the tire in much less time than traditional chains. CDOT engineers, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and tr… Continue

Cars aren't boats.

I wonder if people ever listen. So for as long as I’ve been doing this job and covering flooding I keep putting out that warning, “don’t drive through high water”. Drivers do it anyway and it happened again Wednesday. We had the pictures of the guy who stalled out his car on the ramp from NB I-25 to WB 6th Ave. The car was in the water up to nearly the window with the lights still on and the windshield wipers still going. That was not the only one who tried it in a small car. I counted 5 others… Continue

Seatbelts and Getting Tossed

On Friday I covered 2 bad crashes. One on I-25 near Longmont when a driver going south skidded across the median and crashed in the north bound lanes. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown out of the Jeep. The other crash was on south bound Wadsworth after C470. Again someone driving lost control and flipped over and once agian the 2 people inside were thrown out of the vehicle. Both, yea you guessed it, weren't wearing their seatbelts. Now this is not a plea for people to buckle… Continue
